Long Time, no word!

Well it has been a long time since I updated my blog. There have been many changes at Lavenders Blue Design, too many to mention.  The most exciting news is that I am now a designer for CraftsUPrint

Craftsuprint - World's Largest Craft Download Site

Since there have been so many changes I thought I may as well change the format of my blog too.  From now on I will be posting a card I have made along with instructions (the recipe) for making it, the crafty stash you will need to create it (the ingredients), and then a list of the ingredients I have used (the shopping list).  I am hoping that this will be much more useful, particularly to those of you that are new to crafting.
You may also find a little freebie at the end of each recipe.
  So here is the first one…
MachineCard

YOU’RE SEW SWEET

Type; A4 landscape card
Time; 2 hours if you follow the whole recipe

Ingredients;

2 x A4 sheets card stock in yellow
2 x A4 sheets card stock in white
0.5 metres/yard yellow ribbon
1x A4 sheet backing paper in coordinating colour
1x small piece of coordinating fabric or a piece of backing paper
1 or more real buttons
1 or more pearl dressmakers pins
Some cotton or embroidery silk thread/floss
3”/7.5cms embroidered edging
Embossing folder and machine (optional)
Embossing ink (optional)
15cms/6” circle mat template or die-cut
14 cms/5.5”circle mat template or die-cut
Sewing related die-cuts
Sentiment

Recipe;

  1. Take the two pieces of A4 card (I used one of each colour), score 3 cms/1.25” from one short edge.  Cut the piece of backing paper slightly smaller than the card on three sides, and cut the fourth (short) side slightly smaller than the score line.  Attach the backing paper to the front piece of card.
  2. Add a piece of double-sided tape to one of the scored edges and attach the other to it.  Punch two holes through the joined scored section and thread the ribbon through.
  3. Cut a circle (scalloped or plain) 15cms/6” in diameter from the other yellow card. Cut another circle slightly smaller than this from the white card.  If you are going to emboss this do it now and then ink it up. Attach the largest circle off centre on the card and layer up with the smaller circle. TOP TIP – when matting and layering using double-sided tape, remove the backing from the tape and go over it with a glue stick, this gives you adjustment time.
  4. Cut your embellishments from black card either by hand or using a die-cutting machine.  Add the main image to the centre of the circles.
  5. Attach real or die-cut card buttons to the top right corner with foam pads or gel glue,  I used heavy embossing powder on mine to get a glazed look.
  6. If you are using bobbins or cotton reels wrap some real cotton or embroidery silk around each before attaching to your card in the lower right corner.
  7. Add a small swatch of fabric or coordinated backing paper on the left bottom corner, glue embroidered edging over and place a pin through, making sure it doesn’t go through to the inside of the card.
  8. Finally attach your sentiment to the top left corner.
  9. Don’t forget to finish of the inside with a nice insert, perhaps made from the same backing paper as the front of the card.
